This itinerary is crafted for travelers who want to experience a little bit of everything that Marrakesh has to offer. I’ve balanced the must-see historical landmarks with immersive cultural experiences and moments of pure relaxation. You'll get a taste of the heart of the Medina, see beautiful architecture and parks, and have adventure filled moments in and above the desert. Get ready to explore, taste, and fall in love with one of the most enchanting cities on earth.

For my easy-to-follow list of all things Morocco, check out my list on Flaire and my day trips from Marrakesh guide. They are packed with tips, recommendations, and insights to help you make the most of your Moroccan adventure!

Day 1: Explore the Heart of Marrakesh

Your first day is all about the icons of Marrakesh — stunning palaces, lively squares, and the busy souks. The city can get quite crowded, so you’ll want to start at sunrise and pack in as many sights as possible before big tourist rushes.

Marrakesh Walking Tour

Start with hitting some of the most popular sights in Marrakesh with a guided stroll through the city’s winding streets. The first time visiting a city I love going with a private local tour, so that I can learn about some of the history and culture behind the sights and go at our own pace. If you prefer to hit these sights by yourself, follow this order from the Northern-most point and work your way down.

  • Jardin Majorelle: Start your day at Yves Saint Laurent's stunning garden oasis. You can also enter the museum if you're interested in learning about YSL - he spent a considerable amount of time in Morocco.

  • Koutoubia Mosque: See Marrakesh’s famed skyline and admire the mosque’s beautiful minaret from the gardens.

  • Bahia Palace: This palace is filled with vibrant mosaics and sun-drenched courtyards in this masterpiece of Moroccan architecture.

  • Mellah District: Explore the city’s historic Jewish Quarter, known for its unique charm and history.

  • Grand Bab Agnaou Gate: Pass by one of the most architecturally impressive and important gateways to the Medina.

  • Jemaa el Fnaa Square: Spend some time in this legendary square, and check out different street performers, food stalls, and musicians.

  • Souk Semmarine: Shop and wander the narrow lanes packed with spices, leather goods, and dazzling lanterns.

Enjoy a Rooftop Lunch

After a morning of sightseeing, unwind on the rooftop of La Table du Souk and taste some traditional Moroccan dishes inspired by the street food scene. It's the perfect spot to rest your feet and enjoy the beautiful view from above Marrakesh.

Moroccan Cooking Class

In the afternoon, step into a local kitchen and learn how to prepare authentic favorites like tagine or couscous. The hands-on experience is a delicious way to connect with Moroccan culture (and you get to taste your creations!) There are plenty of cooking classes offered in Marrakesh, but I would recommend either taking a class at the Moroccan Culinary Art Museum or a local chef. We had a private class with Chef Najla and enjoyed tea, learned about the history, made traditional moroccan food and also had the option to learn about the Argan oil process.

Dinner + Explore Marrakesh's Nightlife

After the cooking class, you'll probably be decently full, so if you want to explore a bit more, you can walk around the surrounding area. If you're still hungry or ready for a nightcap, head to Dar Essalam for a light dinner, panoramic views, and signature cocktails as the sun sets over the Red City. If you're in the mood for something more unique Theatro Marrakech is the spot for clubbing, live shows, and late-night energy (it's attached to the casino Marrakech), or for a more laid back vibe, listen to live music at Cocktail Bar & Jazz Club Marrakech

Day 2: Garden Relaxation & Desert Adventure

After a big first day, shift gears and soak up the best of Marrakesh’s relaxation and adventure.

Enjoy the Morning In Your Riad

Eat breakfast at your Riad and relax by the pool. Most Riads offer complimentary breakfast. We loved the ones we stayed at, they were both located close to the medina and the hosts and house keepers were so welcoming and made an amazing breakfast.

Quick Brunch or Coffee

After some downtime, head out for a hearty, flavorful lunch at Falafel Terrace & Brunch, a trendy and beautiful restaurant with delicious classics like shakshuka and some of the best falafel and hummus. If you're still full from breakfast, this is the perfect time to stop at one of the city's most famous cafes, Bacha Coffee, and grab a drink and walk by the Dar El Bacha Museum or check out El Badi Palace.

Wander The Gardens of Marrakesh

Check out the Menara Gardens next and escape the city heat among olive groves and reflecting pools, with the Atlas Mountains as your backdrop—a perfect place to pause and relax a little in the tranquil beauty of Morocco's Nature.

Agafay Desert Adventure

Head back to your Riad and await pickup for an evening in the Agafay Desert. We booked our experience directly through Oasis Sky since we drove ourselves and wanted a private group experience - but I really liked the tour operator. There are plenty of excursions that offer a combination of quad biking, a camel ride, and a dinner with a show under the desert sky.

Day 3: Sunrise, Spa, and Serenity

End your Marrakesh trip on a high (literally) and treat yourself with ultimate relaxation and celebration.

Hot Air Balloon Tour

Waking up at 5:00am is a lot but it's absolutely worth it for this experience. Head out to to a hot air balloon ride over the Marrakesh countryside. Drift silently above Berber villages and desert landscapes, then land for a traditional breakfast.

Lunch on a Terrace

If you're still hungry after coming back from the Hot Air Balloon, grab a small bite at La Terasse Du Jardin, a beautifully chic spot that blends Moroccan flavors with modern tranquility.

Relax at a Traditional Hammam Spa

If you've never experienced a traditional hammam, you should absolutely add it to the list. Experience the ancient ritual at Wa Marrakech Hammam Spa. Enjoy a full steam, scrub, and massage all rooted in the history and culture of these Muslim bathhouses.

Enjoy Dinner and a Show

For your final night, indulge in a refined feast of Moroccan inspired dishes at Safran Marrakech by Koya, and enjoy the nightly show they put on of music and dancing.

Head Out for a Final Farewell Drink

Wind down with drinks at either Cin Cin or Barometre for creative cocktails and a stylish, modern vibe. These were my two favorite cocktail bars we visited, and you can't go wrong with either!
